The global cat-and-mouse hunt for Edward Snowden took a dramatic turn Sunday when the man wanted on U.S. espionage charges fled Hong Kong and may be in the air over Russia. If Snowden turns out to be a Chinese Spy will Republicans owe us yet ANOTHER apology?
They are the most gullible people on earth.
Answer: Yes, but don't count on getting one. The Chinese have never been our friend and would turn on us in a heart beat. The fact that they allowed Snowden to leave Hong Kong when the FBI asked them to detain his was like giving us the finger. If people continue to keep buying goods from the Chinese they are fools. Snowden is thought to be headed to Cuba next to try and sell US secrets to Castro. Follow the dots, Snow has been vising China, Russia and now Cuba which means he is selling US secrets to all three of our enemies. Yet, some people still believe Snowden is a whistle blower and a hero? Yes, they have to be the most gullible people on earth or just brain dead.

are Russia, China and EU happy that the communists in America are spying them?
see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PRISM_%28surveillance_program%29
Brought to you by E.Snowden (such a nice guy).
By the way - the article says that only EU care abuot that...but no china or russia - I am sure Putin isnt happy either...hes probably now writing a speech....
I also find it hypocritical that the brits jumped against it now that they are using the system and are the most anti-eu people in europe.
the program also has bonus for the americans:
"specifically authorizes intelligence agencies to monitor the phone, email, and other communications of U.S. citizens for up to a week without obtaining a warrant" when one of the parties is outside the U.S."
Answer: First of all the general British public isn't against Europe, it's the Conservative party that's been pushing an EU referendum in the hope to push all economic faults to the EU. Only the Foreign Secretary, Home Secretary, and Secretary of State for Defence (in charge of MoD) might have had knowledge of British participation in Prism.
This is a rather convenient timing for China, as the US would be rather hypocritical if they continue to pursuit Chinese espionage claims, when it's been discovered the US does it to their own citizens as well as to foreign nations.
Who are we kidding? A part of us always suspected as much, this only served to confirm that previously thought "paranoid fear". Every country on this globe participate in foreign espionage, which is why the Wikileak leaks caused so much rage and embarrassed so many nations.
It has always been going on, public ignorance to it doesn't mean it never happened.
But the sad thing is, after the public outcry sweeps over, governments will resume their public surveillance, as somebody said, "privacy is a 20th century concept".
And considering how those partaking in social networking are all but too eager to publicise every little niche of their daily life, how can we claim to retain privacy when reading somebody's Twitter is like realtime mind-reading?

"NSA Edward Snowden" Is the US a democracy or more of a HYPOCRISY?
i mean obviously the US has been accusing other countries of their *human rights* violations..like China, Russia etc But the US government has been spying on its own citizens. Whats happened to democracy and individual privacy? Edward Snowden heroically spoke the true and the US agents are making every effort to hunt him down and kill him
You cant tell the truth in the US? And if you do..youre a traitor? Do you think the US is the biggest hypocrisy in the world rather than democracy..Its even worse that China. At least China understands its not perfect..It doesnt criticize other countries and pretend to have the moral highground. Preach what you practice, the US!

Should China or Russia provide asylum to Ed Snowden?
I think they should. Snowden has the list of CIA agents andlistening posts all over the world. He is a gold mine if he can work for Russia or China. I think the CIA or even the Majestic 12 have sent out their assassins. They will silence him at all costs.
What do you think Russia or China will do? What terrible fate will happen to Snowden if he is extradited to the US?
Answer: I don't believe the CIA will take that kind of risk
who know what kind of informations Snowden still have
Snowden have only two options
1) end up in federal prison for the rest of his life
2) get assassinated

Why do the majority of Americans support Snowden so much?
I have lived in America for 6 years in total. I used to think that Americans are very rational. But I was surprised by their comments showing absolute support to Snowden. Indeed, the governments surveillance may violate peoples rights (so do the people, honestly). But if you dont want the surveillance, then you should not blame any terrorist attack on the governments malfunction anymore. Everything comes with a price, and that price is high for freedom. You can try any other country in the world and theyll be no better when theres national security crisis. You cant expect everything you need well provided by the government without any sort of intervention. If Snowdens leaking is just for the people, then why he brought the national security information to China controlled HongKong instead of escaping to Switzerland? I mean, why do American people jump so quick to the conclusion that hes a hero?
Answer: No one like being snooped on, the government has systematically encroached themselves in the lives of everyday people. Instigating fear of an ever expanding "evil", if the government's censors really worked they would had known about the Boston bombers before hand when infact a few years ago Russia, yes the Russians notified America of radical messages between passed by the bomber.
You are trying to bring foreign relations to a purely domestic issue, but as it turned out the US government doesn't get enough from snooping its own people but have to do it to other countries also. Snowden has alot more support from outside the US.

Does anyone else just not give a care about Edward Snowden one way or another?
We have heard for years from our media about the Patriot Act and such that gives various alphabet agencies the authority to listen to our birthday calls to grandma and view the sexting that goes on between me and various floozies while I am drunk. Now a guy is either called a hero (by various libertarians, conspiracy theorists and some liberals) or a villain (by the elite progressives, establishment republicans, et al and among others) for "leaking" documents that pertain to the various NSA eavesdropping programs and releasing what it is that they do to spy on us.
Am I the only one who believes that this is a whole lot of nothing and this guy is an absolute nobody?
Answer: I agree. If there is one thing truly puzzling about the guy is what kind of credentials did he have? High School dropout, didn't even finish his community college computer classes, yet has security clearance? Not saying you have to go to college to be smart but something sounds fishy about the guy. I mean really he just felt such a patriotic duty to his country? So patriotic that he may seek asylum in China or Russia lol. I think hes just looking to cash in some how a nobody that stumbled onto something.

Underground network, WikiLeaks, helping Snowden escape the long reaches of American justice?
The United States is asking Cuba, Ecuador and Venezuela not to let in Edward Snowden, who leaked information about NSA surveillance programs, a senior administration official told CNN on Sunday. The United States also is asking those countries -- rumored to be possible final destinations for Snowden -- to expel him if they do admit him, the official said.
Is it Cuba or Venzuela? What is your take?
Answer: That Putin is letting Snowden into Russia is funny and perhaps if Obama had been a bit more sociable during the recent G8, it might not have happened. China refused to extradite him, so no love lost there.
I suspect Snowden may be at the top of the Obama offing list or maybe our president should ensure Snowden remains safe in order to be given his day in court. That the Wiki Leaks legal team is engaging on his behalf it may be the countries listed are a red herring.
This is a shambolic mess that could be solved if the Obama admin would guarantee safe passage to the US and a real trial - not a behind the scenes sham where the real truth could be hidden under the guise of national security.

Are you interested in the Snowden case? If so, why?
I must confess that the Snowden/NSA/Verizon case interests me as much as, I dont know, a pebble perhaps?! I had trouble finding a comparison, since Im always interested in everything so much but the truth is that seeing so many people up in arms about the whole phone spying thing and knowing that NOTHING will be done about it, apparently makes me feel complete apathy.
Why am I reading then about it now? Simply because all Americans have fled Yahoo Answers in the last few months--I would say almost immediately at the time Sandy Hook took place--and instead of posting qs and as here people have glued themselves to TV sets and are making a habit of placing comments by the thousands at the end of news articles, mostly on Yahoo.
So, I find myself alone and out of curiosity decided to "honor" the Snowden case by reading about him, but truth be told I dont fall completely for it; theres a lot of fishy things going on. But my main question is, why would Hong Kong arrest him? Some people are even saying that it is best he flees.
Why? And if U.S. government wants him, even if he hides under the ground, they will get him through "rendition" or something. I even wonder why same thing hasnt been done to Julian Assange!!!
@A.J.: Americans against Americans--I never thought that day would ever happen.
@ANDREW: 1) European parliament hold U.S. accountable?!
2) If some Americans are right about our "new form of gov.", rendition will be used on him.
3) Major public outcry within U.S.--yeah, sure. U.S. now has almost no middle-class, the rich can care any less (theyre money is blessed by gov), and the poor count as much as a pebble!
Answer: Yes, I am interested in the case because it is a gross violation of human rights and it is outrageous. The European Parliament is going to debate about this tomorrow and will hold accountable the US government.
I think the whistleblowers are going to be increasingly more even if everything that it's been done is meant to intimidate and discourage them. Maybe they don't want to be the wrong side of history, I don't know.
I do understand the government's concern over the national security after 9/11. But I worry that the whole "wiretapping" is done by the 500.000 private contractors who can do whatever they want with the information they take.
Hong Kong officials indicated that they would likely comply with US request for extradition. “Hong Kong is definitely not a safe harbor for him,” said Regina Ip, chair of the New People’s Party. “I think it would be wisest for him to leave Hong Kong because we do have bilateral agreements with the US and we are duty-bound to comply with these agreements.”
Meanwhile Russia has indicated that it may consider giving Snowden asylum, saying, “If such an appeal is given, it will be considered. We’ll act according to facts.”
I think he either fled HK/stays there undercover or they got him through some secret rendition program but I would highly doubt that since he is a US citizen and that would provoke a major public outcry from within the US.
There's no question that CIA wouldn't be capable of doing but the administration's reluctance to deteriorate the relations with that country. Even more, the Chinese authorities would be more than happy to hand him over, so they can get better economic agreements in return.
Julian Assange is a refugee in the Ecuadorian embassy in London since august 2012. The US Gov't hasn't presented any criminal charges against him. I think a secret rendition would make an even more widespread outcry as he has public support from all over the world; it's virtually impossible as long he stays inside the embassy.
But the calls for his assassinations from some Republicans makes me sick to my stomach. I don't think they deserve to live in a democracy, they are disgusting extremists.
If JA makes his way out of that embassy he faces extradition to Sweden where he is charged for sexual assault. He fears that Sweden would hand him over to the US which I highly doubt. I think he should face his legal charges in Sweden and then return to Australia, where he will have massive public support in a future general election. The Australian PM said earlier that Australia doesn't extradites people who face the death penalty.
